MySQL as a NoSQL storage

MySQL has not been in the lime light for a while. Alternatives like MariaDB and Percona have been more popular among Open Source enthusiasts, just because Oracle. Sure enough MySQL has been used and actively improved over the years since the Sun and Oracle acquisitions.

This fall brings exciting news as JSON is now a native data type for fields in MySQL. This and other improvements in the Open Source SQL databases keep the ubiquitous data store relevant.
